Recently we had a wolf supporter write to us and ask if the article she had written was valid in the fight for Alberta wolves. Anytime you write anything that addresses important issues, especially when it comes from the heart, is always going to be valid to the cause. It may inspire others to do the same and it is a way to individually showcase your concern for a cause you care about. We recommended that she share with her MLA and with news outlets. Lets keep people talking and thinking about wolves. That makes it hard for the government to ignore. With permission, here is her article. Thank you Emma J.S!!
Thank you to Bearspaw Lifestyle Centre in Calgary for inviting our Wolf Matters team to talk to members about wolves and coyotes for their Lunch and Learn event! We love teaching about wild canids so contact us if you're interested in a presentation!
If WildEarth Guardians can do it, why can't we? Trust me, we have asked the same questions. This is what we have found out.
We love people that are passionate about wolves and wildlife in general and it's always special when they share part of that passion with us in terms of a photo, artwork, or a poem! Recently, one wolf supporter, a veterinarian named Debi Zimmermann, sent us her poem and asked us to share! Enjoy! And feel free to submit your art work, or stories, poems etc....or your photos with our Awareness Wolves!!

We have some incredibly disappointing and sad news out of Alberta today. A colleague that works with Wolf Matters on a routine basis has persistently followed up with the Government of Alberta regarding Mr. Kay's comments that the GoA was planning on banning bounties in Alberta and, sadly, below is what he sent us today. We are extremely disappointed by this news:
"When the article was published I emailed Phillips and requested confirmation and an estimated date for a public announcement. Finally after complaining I received an email from Matt Besko, wildlife policy manager in reply to my question. I am sorry to say they are now claiming Kay was misquoted and their position is as follows:
They have made NO DECISION TO REGULATE AGAINST THE USE OF BOUNTIES.
They claim banning bounties WOULD BE A COMPLEX PROCESS and municipalities need them TO MANAGE WILD BOAR AND BEAVER.
They also claim there is NO CONSERVATION ISSUE with bounties, meaning they are not endangering wolf or coyote numbers.
Beaver cannot be managed by bounties anymore than wolves and coyotes and Wild Boar are not wildlife so their argument is non existent. The truth is they are more comfortable with the political expedient than they are properly taking responsibility for managing wildlife.
Wildlife management - Alberta Style!
I am confident Ellis did not misquote Kay and believe he misled her and got caught. I have experienced the same thing myself after a telephone conversation, you need it in writing."
We have written to the Minister and Premier again asking them to reconsider addressing bounties, as well as snares, baiting and poison.
Minister Phillips email@example.com
Premier Notley firstname.lastname@example.org
We encourage you to write as well and to copy your MLA.

This article (posted below) confirms that the northern boreal forest is in bad shape along with the animals that require this biome as their habitat to live in. What is most alarming is that the article states that the federal government is trying to downplay this issue: "It's not a good sign that when I contacted Canadian Forest Service scientist Sylvie Gauthier, the lead author of the Science paper that surveyed threats to the boreal, I was told by a public affairs officer that the interview would be on "deep background only" with no attribution to her or her employer. The federal government of Canada, facing some the world's most serious climate change threats, has gone to great lengths to squelch any discussion of this issue."

Do you think that the grandkids of these politicians will thank them for this denial?
